[edit] Overview

Startup Camp Montreal is an event dedicated to everything Startup. It is the forum where early stage companies, investors and on-lookers alike can share information and validate pitches live. Join us as we learn from each other about the ins and outs of starting up. This event is not just for Montrealers, all are welcome. Space is limited, so you need to register soon .

A “Camp” event is an ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, presentations, and interaction from participants. The “Camp” event concept is inspired from Bar camp and Foo camp events originally started in California, but now held worldwide.

The initiators and instigators of this event are: Embrase, Jevon Mac Donald, Jonas Brandon, Sylvain Carle, and Heri Rakotomalala. Anyone else interested in helping with the organization of the event can send us an e-mail at ptelio@startupcampmontreal.org.

[edit] Keynote Speaker

We are happy to announce Graham Hill, Founder TreeHugger.com and Vice President, Interactive Media, Planet Green as our keynote speaker.

Image:Grahamtime.jpg

Alternately described as Serial Entrepreneur, Do-Gooder and Designer, Graham Hill certainly enjoys variety, although now finds his future happily confined to the social entrepreneurship arena. Past businesses include forays into fashion, web-development, viral email and plant-based air filters. In 1995, with his cousin, he started and grew the web-development firm, SiteWerks, to 60 people doing work for large companies such as Microsoft and sold the company to a New York based company in 1998.

He currently focuses on pushing sustainability into the mainstream through TreeHugger.com, which in 4 short years has become one of the most respected and trafficked environmental sites on the web. Graham and the TreeHugger.com team recently joined the Discovery Communications family of networks as part of its Planet Green multi-platform, global environmental initiative.

Additionally, he owns a product business that sells a New York souvenir he designed a few years ago into 150 stores including MOMA. Originally from the Montreal area, Graham has a Bachelor of Architecture with distinction from Carleton University in Ottawa and did advanced studies in Industrial Design at E.C.I.A.D, Vancouver. Graham has lived all over the world and his guiltiest sin is air travel (offset of course). He speaks English, French, German and Spanish and is addicted to squash.

He doesn't get home too often, so we are extremely pleased Graham is making the trip up north to inspire local entrepreneurs and startups.
